Collaboration with ARUP (as an independent non bios entity) to document the activity of FCX (Freeport-McMoran)  in the Baldwin Hills, Culver City. The scope is to digitally reconstruct the large area (frozen in time) using a combination of GIS (Geographic information system) 3D terrain. Google Earth High Resolution Satellite Photography and Panoramic Photos taken on specific key locations throughout a period of several years. Every year, new drilling spots are identified, and proposed wells are submitted to the City Committee for final approval.
The Process: 3D GIS data & photographic material is processed and aligned using 3points photo matching method. The proposed new drilling locations are illustrated with real size 3D models of PumpJacks "Nodding Donkeys" in the exact location and orientation they will be built.

Context & History: The Inglewood Oil Field is located within Culver City and the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County known as Baldwin Hills.  The current active Oil Field boundary is approximately 1,000 acres and is operated by Company FCX (Freeport-McMoran). Drilling began in the 1920s and the last comprehensive amendments to the City’s oil drilling regulations occurred in 2003.  In the late 1990s and early 2000s, PXP and recently FCX obtained drilling rights at the Oil Field, and by 2004 renewed drilling of oil wells in the area.
