First, I capture the real truck. I 3D scan the rear bumper area, frame rails and hitch region, then use photogrammetry to cover larger surfaces like the rear quarter, tailgate, and the undercarriage where a scanner alone can struggle. That means walking around the car taking a dense photo set, including underneath, with good lighting and clear overlap. Back in the studio I align and merge the scan data and the photogrammetry mesh, clean up noise, and lock everything to real-world scale using known dimensions or OEM specs. Mounting points, tow hitch, exhaust, spare tire, sensors and departure angle zones are all tagged directly in the 3D file. Then I bring in accurate 3D assets of the 4Runner rear chassis and bumper hardware and register them to the scan. The result is a realistic and dimensionally accurate digital twin of the back of the vehicle, including the undercarriage envelope. That becomes the base to design the bumper attachment, so clearances, hole patterns and load paths are correct from day one and we can move straight into CAD, FEA and prototype.
